IMPORTANT MESSAGE REGARDING THE PRINCE ALBERT LOPPET
SCHEDULED FOR SUNDAY, JANUARY 15
Due to minimal snow, and total lack of co-operation from walkers, joggers and other non-contributing users, the Little Red River ski trails are not useable for the loppet. By invitation from the owner, we have been able to groom a skate and classic track at Mary Nisbet campground. (North on Highway 2, watch for signs) It is a short track, but because the area hasn't had any of the above traffic, it is really nice.
We've decided that in lieu of the loppet, we'll meet at the camp ground, ski and visit for most of the afternoon, and then we'll all go to the Cosmo Lodge for Stew and Bannock. We'll have a fire and refreshments. We'll be set up by 1:00 P.M., and we want to be back at the lodge by 4:00 P.M.
There will be no charge for this event! All skiers are welcome! Those few people who were good sports and pre-registered will receive a full refund! To qualify for the meal, all you need to do is RSVP by 4:30 P.M., Thur Jan 12th, to: bernard.dupuis@skvelocity.ca, or phone (306)764-2314.
Don't forget, that the co-purpose of the loppet is to raise funds for diabetes. The Prince Albert Cosmopolitan Club has committed to volunteering for this event as a means of raising funds for Diabetes, which is their main charity. It should also be noted that the Cosmopolitan Club has donated $1500.00 to our race team. We have prizes available for the folks bringing in the most pledges. It might not be too late to start collecting pledges, and cash in! Any pledges collected need to be brought to the Cosmo Lodge after skiing.

WESTERN CANADIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS
Canmore, January 19-22, 2012
Watch here for more information to come.
This is an important event for Midget and older Saskatchewan athletes who want to gain experience racing against their peers from across Western Canada. The venue is the Canmore Nordic Centre - site of the 1988 Winter Olympics and three World Cup events in 2005, 2008 and 2010. CCS High Performance Committee intends to support a Saskatchewan contingent at this event and has booked apartment type rooms (shared accommodation for up to 6 people in each apartment) at the Rocky Mountain Ski Lodge. Staying together as a team keeps logistics easy for coaches and athletes, keeps accommodation and food costs low and is fun. We are looking for expressions of interest from three groups of people. Details will come, but for now please email danbrisbin@sasktel.net to let us know of you interest. Priority will be given to athletes, coaches and officials. Remaining vacancies can be allocated to family members but their costs will not be subsidized.
Athletes - Midget and older ages are eligible to compete in the Western Canadian Championships.
Coaches - We need at least two coaches (possibly more depending on athlete numbers) who are willing to be responsible for fully supporting our athletes in the races. This includes making sure they get back and forth between the hotel and the race venue, coaching them on race planning, waxing skis and attending team captains meetings. Your costs would be fully covered by CCS. Depending on numbers, we may also need one or two parents or coaches who are willing to play a support role - transporting athletes, buying groceries and leading meal and washing duties (athletes will be expected to help).
Officials - The Western Championships organizing committee is still looking for volunteers and this would be an excellent event for Saskatchewan officials to gain experience at a "big event". If you are a Level 1 or 2 CCC certified official looking to gain experience, you can join the Saskatchewan contingent. Please let Dan Brisbin know but also please register as a volunteer at http://volunteers.albertaworldcup.com (copy and paste into your internet bowser if link doesn't work).
INAUGURAL SASKMAN CUP
Flin Flon/Creighton, February 18 and 19, 2011
Watch here for more information to come.
This will be an exciting event that will see athletes from Saskatchewan and Manitoba competing together in the same event. Our Flin Flon club has enthusiastic volunteers and excellent facility and trails to host the first SaskMan Cup that we hope will become an annual event. The two races qualify as head-to-head races under Sask Cup Rules and the event is CCC Tier 2 sanctioned.
CCS High Performance Committee is considering hiring an intercity bus that would originate in Regina and pass through Saskatoon and Prince Albert as an alternative to driving. Those of you who were part of the Saskatchewan contingent going to the Smithers, BC Westerns a few years back will remember that this was a fun way to travel and build the "Team Saskatchewan" camaraderie. A northern bus could also be organized if there is interest.
Please email danbrisbin@sasktel.net if you would be interested in travelling to the Flin Flon SaskMan Cup on a CCS bus. Please give an indication of who in your family and team is interested and whether they are athlete, coach or family member. First priority will be given to athletes and coaches but we expect to be able to accommodate parents as well. It's important to respond as the bus will not be organized if there isn't sufficient interest.
NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
Mont Ste Anne QC, March 17-24, 2012
Watch here for more information to come.
This is the premier annual event in Canada and CCS will be looking to send a contingent from Saskatchewan. More information will come once the Race Notice is available but, for now, please send expressions of interest to danbrisbin@sasktel.net.
Athletes - Juvenile and older ages are eligible to compete in the National Championships. This is a competitive event so CCS will be looking for athletes who have demonstrated a commitment to training and who have demonstrated results in our Sask Cups, and in western regional events like the SaskMan Cup, the Western Championships and Alberta Cups.
Officials - Cross Country Canada (CCC) will offer a Level 3 officials course at the National Championships. CCS wants to develop more Level 3 officials to serve as Technical Delegates and Chiefs of Competition in our Sask Cups and will subsidize experienced Level 2 officials who would like to advance their officiating certification to Level 3.
JUVENILE AND OLDER ATHLETES INTERESTED IN COMPETING IN THESE EVENTS ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO BUY CCC RACE LICENSES IF THEY HAVE NOT ALREADY DONE SO.
