The
Melfort Cross Country Ski Club was formed in 1986 to foster and
promote the sport of cross country skiing in this NorthEast Saskatchewan.
As we enter our 20th year as a club, we remember the past with
gratitude the founders who pioneered the formation of our club
and we look to the future with a sense of adventure and optimism.
Our 20th anniversary is made particularly special as the Club
hosts the cross country ski events of the 2006 Saskatchewan Winter
Games held February 16 to 18 at our Gronlid Trails.

Our
Club is primarily comprised of recreational skiers who appreciate
the wonderful setting of our system of trails in the jack pines
and rolling terrain of Fort a La Corne Provincial Forest approximately
25 miles north of Melfort.
The
Gronlid Trails consist of a system of 20 km interconnected loops
ranging from novice to intermediate levels of difficulty and including
a trail groomed for skating. These
trails are well marked with signs. They are groomed regularly
by contract personnel employed by the Club with equipment owned
and maintained by the Club. Our trails include a warm up shelter
equipped with a wood heater and first aid supplies.
Our
Club also maintains a lighted trail located in the Melfort Campground
on the south eastern corner of the municipal boundaries of Melfort
near the Junction of Highway 6 and 41.
