Club Activities and Excecutive

As Club we have one annual meeting and in the intervening time, our Executive plans various activities for the Club. Our annual trail clean up held in the fall is a great opportunity for members to gather in a social work bee function. Trail clean up duties include removing deadfall from the trails, chopping firewood for the shelter, washing and cleaning the shelter followed by a hearty group lunch. The clean up for 2005 was wet but fun!

During the season, Club generally organizes one Ski Clinic that is held in Melfort. Scheduling of this event is advertised in the Melfort Journal.

Events:
Melfort will be hosting the Saskatchewan Winter Games and Cross Country Skiing is one of the featured sports. The Games take place during the February School Break, and teen athletes from around the province will be competing for gold. The draft technical package is attached to this web page for athletes and coaches to browse. Anyone having questions about the technical package should contact Kent Pointon, C.C.S. Technical Coordinator at lrso@cableronge.sk.ca.

Programs and Partnerships:
Currently the Melfort Club only offers recreational classic and skate skiing. Cross country skiing is a sport for all ages and all ability levels. It provides opportunities for recreation and relaxation in the crisp clean outdoors. We are looking for coaches who would be willing to teach the Jackrabbit program, and /or possibility start a competitive program for our junior skiers. If you are interested please contact us. The Melfort Cross Country Ski Club could not exist if it were not partnered with several Agencies, Boards and Volunteers. We are partnered with Cross Country Saskatchewan who offers assistance in a variety of areas – programming, races and loppets, mentorship, and grants. We also receive support from the City of Melfort.
